Alana de Freitas
Founder of ADF Productions
Alana de Freitas is an award-winning filmmaker with a background in the corporate sector. It was there that she developed her people leading and project management skills, which she was able to pivot into a career as a producer.
Having performed since she was a child, she relocated from Melbourne, Australia to the Los Angeles in 2015 to pursue acting. After becoming disenchanted with the one-dimensional roles available for women, she decided to write the roles she wanted to watch. In 2017, she launched ADF Productions and wrote and produced her first narrative short, Infidelity.
She followed this up with writing, producing and starring in the feature film, Before the Dawn, which awarded a ReFrame Stamp - an initiative of Women in Film and the Sundance Institute - which recognizes gender parity in front of and behind the camera. The film won numerous awards on the festival circuit, including Best Feature Film at the American Film Awards and the Focus International Film Festival, and is available on Amazon Prime, Tubi, Roku, YouTube Movies and Google Play.
Alana went on to produce the highly acclaimed short, I’m Not Here, which premiered to a standing ovation at the Beverly Hills Playhouse Film Festival. Writing and producing left Alana with the desire to direct, so in 2019, she made her directorial debut with Nancy. This short, which she also wrote and produced, won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sherman Oaks Film Festival, along with Best Screenplay at the International Independent Film Awards, Best First Time Director at the New York Film Awards, and Best Short Film at the Hollywood Gold Awards and the Vegas Movie Awards.
In 2020, Alana was selected as a Team Leader and Producer for the Women’s Weekend Film Challenge, and created the short film, For Life. The film has just begun its festival run but has already won Best Short Film at the International Independent Film Awards and the Vegas Movie Awards.
With a slate of exciting projects in the pipeline, ADF Productions has a focus on creating content that provokes thought and evokes emotion. Alana is committed to championing women and underrepresented groups, both on and off screen, and she has proudly been accepted into the 2020 Women in Film Mentoring Program.
